According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers in the manufacturing sector have an amputation rate of 1.7 per 10,000 full-time workers, which is more than double the rate for all private industries. This translates to 2,000 full-time manufacturing sector workers who had to undergo an amputation in 2013.

Inspectors plan to reverse upward trend in mining deaths

Mine operators in Pennsylvania can expect increased inspections from the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A deadly day in which three miners lost their lives in separate accidents across the country prompted the agency's assistant secretary of labor to say that the spike in incidents at metal and non-metal mines will not be ignored.
